Where life’s a beach

WHITEHAVEN BEACH – four miles of pure white silica sand – on uninhabited #Whitsunday Island, #Queensland, has been named by TripAdvisor as one of the world’s ten most #perfectbeaches.

Cruise Whitsundays – the largest marine tourism operator in the region – has three ways to get beach-lovers to Whitehaven: a full day at the beach; a half-day cruise adventure; and a high-speed ride to the beach aboard the company's sailing catamaran.

Departures are from the company's cruise terminal at Airlie Beach, and from Hamilton and Daydream Islands

*Whitehaven Beach sand comprises 98% pure silica, which gives it its bright white colour. As local rocks are not silica bearing, it has been suggested the sand has been brought to the beach by prevailing sea currents over millions of years. Unlike ordinary sand, Whitehaven’s reflects light and does not absorb heat, making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day.
