Red tape and taxes hamper UK tourism

THE travel and tourism industry’s contribution to the UK economy will fall this year as taxes and regulations continue to hinder potential growth in the sector, says the World Travel & Tourism Council.
The council predicts that the sector will see only 2.5 percent growth in GDP contribution this year, compared to the 3.4 percent increase seen in 2013.

“The UK is not taking the potential of travel and tourism seriously enough and is losing vital income and potentially hundreds of thousands of jobs at a time when creating employment opportunities for young people is vital,” says the council.
