AN employment analysis shows tourism
to be the major driver of jobs in Britain since the 2008 financial crisis and recession.
The research, commissioned by VisitEngland and done by the Office for National
Statistics, shows that between September 2009 and September 2013, the number of
people working in tourism industries in England rose by six percent, equating
to 153,000 jobs. Over the same period, the number of people working in other
industries grew by three percent.
Tourism in England is worth £106 billion
and employs 2.6 million people.
