See Cornwall from a kayak

A holiday in New Zealand gave Tom and Hetty Wildblood an idea for a business venture based on the great –and watery – outdoors in England.

Tom says: ‘The kayaking tours we did in New Zealand were a lot of fun, but also educational with knowledgeable guides, and we wanted to bring a bit of that back to Cornwall.’

Settling in St Agnes in Cornwall, they invested in a tandem Ocean Kayak and set out to explore the local coastline and its dramatic colourful cliffs. In 2012, Koru Kayaking started guided adventures from St Agnes.

‘You don’t have to fly to the other side of the world to see amazing wildlife …  it is right here in Cornwall,’ says Hetty.  Basking Sharks, Atlantic Grey Seals, Sunfish and Dolphins and an abundance of birdlife have all been seen while kayaking along the coast.

Koru’s offers include a two-hour kayak adventure along Frenchman’s Creek and the Helford River up to three times a day. Frenchman’s Creek was the inspiration for Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name, and it was used recently in Kylie Minogue’s pop video, Flower.

Koru take parties of up to eight people. No experience is necessary, full briefings are given and tours are led by an experience guide. Buoyancy aids are provided and wetsuits are available for hire.
