Americans are top tippers

IN a TripAdvisor survey, 60 percent of US respondents said they always tip for service on vacation, compared with an average of 27 percent in seven other countries including Britain, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Spain. The score for Italy was 11 percent.

‘The survey shows the majority of US travellers tip on vacation, regardless of the quality of service,’ said Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications at TripAdvisor. ‘While friendliness and helpfulness are the most important qualities that influence tipping behaviour, cultural norms are also a significant factor.’
