THE new Lakes Distillery near Bassenthwaite in
Cumbria is opening its doors to visitors for the first time.
Its bistro &
bar, shop, and tours will open to the public in December this year, but in the
meantime it has a pre-opening visitor reception centre.
Situated in the house next to the distillery's site
on a former Victorian model farm, the centre will welcome visitors from 11am until
4pm every day, allowing them to find out about the distillery's story so far
and have a complimentary English whisky tasting.
Katie Read, Business Development Manager for The
Lakes Distillery said: ‘Visits are free of charge, so it's a great excuse to
come and see what we're all about.’
Progress at the site is underway with a brand
new boiler recently installed and Buttermere and Westmorland slate currently
being put into place on the distillery roof.
Distillery staff have gone to Spain to oversee production of bespoke
casks.
