Bright outlook for English tourism

RESULTS of the Great British Tourism Survey released by VisitEngland show that that 3.8 million domestic holiday trips were taken in England in April 2014, a ten percent increase on the same month in 2013, with tourism spend up five percent year-on-year.

The early months of 2014 were characterized by extremely wet weather which had a negative impact on figures. But a later, milder Easter had a positive effect on business, providing a welcome boost for tourism.

Looking ahead, more than 90 percent of businesses say they feel confident about the summer holidays, with more than 70 percent of accommodation providers reporting strong forward bookings for the rest of the school holiday period.
