Record year for US tourism

THE US welcomed a record 75 million international visitors in 2014, a seven percent increase over 2013, reports the Department of Commerce in Washington DC.

‘The data shows that the United States continues to be the premier destination for international visitors,’ said Under Secretary of International Trade at the Department of Commerce, Stefan M. Selig. ‘It also highlights that we remain on track toward achieving President Obama's goal of attracting 100 million international visitors to the US by 2021.’

Unsurprisingly, Canada and Mexico remained the top two inbound markets in 2014.

The UK, Japan, and Brazil rounded out the top five source markets by country, but while British and Brazilian visitor numbers were up, Japanese visitations dropped by four percent.

The top three entry ports were New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, accounting for 41 percent of all overseas arrivals.
