Up in the air …

easyJet marks 20th anniversary with ad campaign … The airline is marking its 20th anniversary with a £10 million pan-European, multi-media advertising campaign. Using the tagline ‘how 20 years has flown’, the campaign tells the story of easyJet over the last two decades and invites passengers to tell their own travel stories.

The airline also re-released its first advertisement, which will run on social media. First aired in 1995, it offered £29.99 flights ‘costing the same as a pair of jeans’.

The TV ad debuts in the UK during the opening Rugby World Cup game between England and Fiji.

Wow Air re-launches £99 one-way Atlantic flights … Tickets for the flights –from Gatwick to Boston and Washington DC via Reykjavik – will go on sale for selected dates between October 1 to December 15, and January 10 to March 10.

The airline said its services to the US via Reykjavik started in October 2014 have been an enormous success, with consistent average load factors in excess of 90%. It claims its low-cost fare structure has led to a 14% fall in average ticket prices between London and Boston.

Ryanair confirms new bases in Italy and Spain … Ryanair is expanding in Italy and Spain with new bases in Milan and Santiago de Compostela. The budget carrier is to start four routes from Milan Malpensa to Stansted, Comiso, Bucharest and Seville from December 1. Ryanair will also continue to operate from Milan’s Bergamo airport.

The Santiago base will open for summer 2016 as the airline’s 12th base in Spain.
