Southern Malta to get tourism boost

MALTA’S tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis says that the southern part of the island has ‘massive’ potential for the tourism industry, and that the government had only just started to tap into it.

Speaking at the opening of a tourist information office in Marsaxlokk, he said the government was placing a bigger emphasis on the tourism potential in the south.

Tourists regarded the south largely as a one-day excursion area, but the government wanted to change this perception. Accommodation in the area had increased but much more had to be done.

A Member of Parliament from the south said the region had been ‘neglected for decades’.
