Ryanair returns to Newquay after airport fee scrapped

CORNWALL’S Newquay Airport is to become Ryanair’s 17th UK destination with the resumption of flights next spring.

The move was announced after Cornwall County Council confirmed it was scrapping a controversial £5 airport development fee at Newquay. Ryanair dropped flights from Newquay when the charge for every departing passenger over 16 was imposed in 2006.

The low-cost carrier is now returning and will run flights from Newquay to Alicante and Frankfurt from April 2016. The flights will operate twice weekly next summer.

Ryanair aims to carry 35,000 passengers in the first year on the two new routes.
