Smell the streets of York

TOURISM authorities in York have devised a novel way of enticing holidaymakers with the publication of a scented travel guidebook.

Smell York is infused with a range of smells, from horse hair, hoof oil, grass and fruit punch (to bring to mind a day at the York Racecourse) to loose leaf tea and spiced cake (invoking the tea shops in the city centre).

A picture of the North York Moors comes with the aroma of wild heather, while a photo of a railway is accompanied by the scent of coal and engine oil. A page about York’s chocolate-making industry smells of cocoa and butter.
