Stray from the beaten track …

2014 marks the 10 year anniversary of the first pieces of access land being opened up for everyone to enjoy.

Walkers now have more than three million acres of mountain, moor, heath, down and common land to explore in England and Wales. In celebration of the anniversary, the Ramblers is highlighting some of the most stunning places where people can wander freely, away from the well-trodden path.

Here are eight of their recommended areas:

·       Langsett Moors, Peak District

·       Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor

·       Gragareth & Whernside, Yorkshire Dales

·       Pumlumon, Central Wales - pictured right is the inspiring sunrise over Plynlimon, from Pisgah - the sun about to rise between Pumlumon Fawr and Y Garn

·       Simonside Hills, Northumberland

·       Strines Edge & Dovestone Tor, Peak District

·       Oxted to Westerham, North Downs

·       Boulsworth Hill, South Pennines
