Going on holiday? Tell your bank!

MORE than three quarters of holidaymakers who have had their credit card declined while abroad had failed to notify their bank that they would be going on holiday overseas, according to new research by TSB. More than half said that they had not realised they needed to tell their bank about their travels plans.

Jatin Patel, product director at TSB says: ‘Tickets, passport, and money. That is the traditional going away checklist, and making sure your cards work abroad should be included in it.

Card transactions abroad are one of the most common fraud indicators, and therefore your card might be declined if you have not already informed your bank of your intention to travel.

‘This can be expensive, frustrating and time-consuming to sort out, especially if there are different time zones involved, which is why TSB has introduced a quick, easy, and convenient system to take the pain out of paying abroad. A quick call to let us know about travel plans, will enable our customers to use their cards abroad.’
